Area Code 213

North American area code 213 is a California telephone area code which was one of California's original three area codes created in October 1947. It has historically been associated with Southern California and Los Angeles.

Originally, it stretched from the southern portion of the Central Valley to the Mexican border. However, due to California's burgeoning population, it has been subdivided a number of times. It now contains only downtown Los Angeles and its immediate environs, and is completely surrounded by area code 323. The subdivisions to date have been:
